Apart from a handful of models (which are
unique to Japan and therefore would not interfere with sales of US or
Mexican models) Fender Japan are prevented from officially exporting to
Europe or the US. This is one, a '62 Strat in Shoreline Gold. These are the specs:

This is a Crafted in
Japan 2005-2006 'R' serial . Condition is absolutely superb.. there
isn't a photographable mark on it. You will notice that the
previous owner swapped the chrome hardware for the gold-plated
version. He used the proper (and quite expensive) Fender Japan
bits so you have 'Fender' stamped saddles and the correct Kluson-style
tuners. He swapped all the expensive bits but hasn't changed
the neck plate, back plate screws, pickup retaining screws or
string tree, but if you are so inclined all of these things are
easily available over here.
I think the combination of gold
hardware and Vintage White body looks very nice
indeed. A gold with white tip tremolo arm is included but wasn't
fitted when the pics were taken.
There is
nothing that could be called fret wear and all controls work
smoothly and without noise. It comes with Japanese paperwork, an
allen key to adjust the string saddles, a strap and, of course, a
Fender gigbag.
There is nothing much else one can
say when a guitar is as good as this.

Acoustically there is plenty of
resonance and sustain. Plug in and all the same qualities are
evident. The US-made Vintage pickups are what Fender US fit to
their reissues and they give a classic, clear as a bell, Strat
tone. A new set of hybrid 9ss has been fitted
and the guitar plays excellently.
By the way, the basswood used for
the bodies in this range is very similar to alder in terms of its
density and tonal qualities. It is sometimes a little less
'grained' than alder but, with a painted body, you'll never tell
the difference.
This instrument looks
fantastic, and sounds superb. It is an absolute beauty. Highly
recommended.
