USED
GRETSCH GUITARS FOR SALE!
While buying and selling mainly Fender Japan Strats and
Teles, I've always had a 'thing' about semi-acoustics,
particularly from Gretsch. Well, I've accumulated a small
collection of them and now is the time to think about
sorting them out... moving some on, perhaps buying others.
Check the 'Used
Guitars' page to see what I am currently selling. |

Fender Japan instruments still
offer excellent value for money, especially when compared with
US-made Fenders. And I can only point out the
obvious again... that to buy used is the way to make your money go
further... a LOT further. Just look at the prices of the
few new Fender Japan instruments that are available.
For a lot less you can get a lot more by buying wisely and
buying used.
Why
buy used?
When answering that question I have always said that buying as
used instrument allows you to get more guitar for
your money. Your budget will stretch to a higher specification
guitar. Which is undeniably true. However, there is another
major consideration to take into account, particularly in these
hard times. A used instrument has already suffered depreciation.
Keep your used guitar
in good
condition and you may even find its value increasing over time
because, in the case of Fender Japan instruments, demand seems to
exceed supply and I've certainly seen values increase considerably
in the years I've been dealing in them.
Buy
what you will from where you will, but probably the best advice I
can give is ... buy the best specification your budget will
allow. That could well mean buying used. Oh...and buy
from a reputable source. I depend upon this for part of my living
and it is in my interest to ensure that - as far as I can -
customers are happy and come back. Someone flogging just one
guitar they found in the attic does not have the same incentive.
Of course there are
downsides to buying used - the odd mark or ding for instance - but
buy wisely from a reputable source and your money will go a lot
further and, most important in these uncertain times, sidestep
depreciation.
What protection do
you have when buying from me, a total stranger to most of you,
over the internet?
It's my aim to offer a buyer the
sort of service I'd like to receive (and often don't)
whenever I buy something. Buying from a total stranger on
the internet can be a stressful process. I try to make it
as easy as possible by maintaining a simple, straightforward
website with detailed descriptions of current stock illustrated
with a comprehensive range of pin-sharp photos. If anyone wants
additional information or photos - they get it without delay. With
the proviso that turnover can be brisk and I can't always update
the site immediately an instrument has been sold, I only advertise
for sale what I actually have in stock. Bearing in mind Post
Office opening hours, I also ship immediately payment is received.
In other words, I don't mess you around... which is why I get good
testimonials like the examples printed further down this page.
However, you also have
legal protection under what are called Distance Selling
Regulations (DSRs). These are the rules that apply to anyone
selling products or services to consumers without face-to-face
contact, and where the consumer hasn't had an opportunity to
examine the goods before buying or discuss the service in person.
Compliance with DSRs is a legal requirement and enforcement action
can be taken in court against businesses that breach them.
As a guitar-lover, in
this for the long term, it is in my interests to give you a good
service, to comply with DSRs, and to ensure that you understand
how they protect you when buying from me. I have therefore laid
out their terms and my statement on the How
to Buy/Terms & Conditions page. Read them and you'll hopefully
feel better about buying one of my instruments.
So, buy with
confidence. By the way, I would emphasise that any serious
potential buyer who is able to get to Essex is very welcome to
come and try before they buy.
Here are a few
testimonials; I could have made them up, but I didn't.
Thought I'd just let you know I've spent all Christmas playing
and bonding with the strat and its great.
I'm extremely
pleased with it. Cheers Terry
Dear
John, I would like to thank you and recommend you to any other
buyer of your fine secondhand Japanese Fenders, I've just
purchased a tweed case for mine it looks beautiful and sounds
tremendous with those american vintage pickups. John I found you
honest fair & helpful when at your home buying this guitar, no
one should ever worry about buying from you, as your website shows
your Guitars just as they look when you see them with your own
eyes and of course hear them with your ears. I have just seen a
website selling an american Shorline Gold Vintage Fender
Stratocaster (just like mine but made in
california
) Priced at £1,899.00. Kind regards (I am always checking
your website for any other guitars that catch my eye) Brian
Thank
you very much - a superb guitar! It arrived this morning and
I've been playing it most of the day. Great tones! I
used to have a Tele years ago - American Fender - and I don't
remember it sounding this good. It's lovely to play too -
very easy somehow. Great for blues and classic rock. Ken
Just a quick
note to say I received the 'Keef' Telecaster Custom yesterday.
(My wife purchased it a few weeks ago for my birthday).
Condition was as described on the site and, as is usual
with Fender Japan, the guitar has instant mojo, plays well and
sounds amazing. It is an a far superior league to the
Mexican Fenders (Standard, Classic and 'Road Worn'
series) which just dont seem to have the same build quality
either in materials or construction and certainly dont
match the value for money. These Japanese Fenders even
give the sub £1000 USA Fenders a good run for their money and
are certainly better in terms of period finishes and othe
touches and the elusive 'Mojo'! (Still madly in love with the
62 Daphne Blue Strat I purchased from you a couple of years
ago). Unfortunately, I am now banned from your site by aforementioned
wife until such time as I stop smoking, but
hopefully will be back soon tracking down a 50s 'black
guard' telecaster !Thanks again for your excellent service
John
John,
Many
thanks for shipping so pronto. Excellent guitar in outstanding
condition. Would have been in touch earlier but my amp went phut
last night.Cheers, Mark
Hi John
The guitar came this morning, perfect condition.Almost missed
the delivery but woke up before he left.
It really is a lovely guitar and sounds fantastic. Thanks for
all your help, patience (the patience of a saint) and of
course your excellent service. Next time i'm buying a guitar,
i'll go straight to your site. Thanks for everything
Danny
Hi
John..
Strat
played great with the 11's on (as you said). In fact its made
me think I should put 11's on my 335 as the strings creaks and
tuning slips slightly even post set-up. Anyway, just wanted to
thank you for making the stressful process of buying unseen by
post more straight forward. The extensive clear pics and
up-front emails pay off trust wise and I'd happily recommend
you to others. All the best,John
Hello John,
Strat arrived this morning. Sounds beautiful & looks even
better than photos, very glad I took the chance of it when it
came up. yours Keir

Some 5 or 6 years ago I bought a brand new
Fender Japan Stratocaster and was immediately impressed with the build
quality, finish and sound. But why was the legendary Stratocaster being
made in Japan? I did a little research and built my Fender
Stratocasters - Made in Japan website. You probably came here via that very site. The original idea was to provide readers with an overview of the different
Stratocaster models exported by Fender Japan. By that time Fender Japan
were no longer permitted to export to Europe and the US, but I soon found
out that they are producing better guitars than ever. We just were not
seeing them in the UK. A
handful of new Fender Japan guitars are now being imported privately and
there are plenty of lower specification export model guitars floating
about on the second-hand market. But, until now, there has never been any
worthwhile source of used, high specification, non-export Fender Japan
instruments in the UK. Now there is- a site dedicated to the source and
supply of good used Fender Japan guitars and basses. Follow
the links to the used stock lists and you will find that each
listing takes you to a page devoted to that
particular guitar or bass with full details and clear, sharp photos.
I'm in the UK (Essex) and can be contacted
on 01992 523138 or via email.
If you live close enough you are welcome to come and try any or all of the
guitars I have for sale. However, if you just fancy a noodle to pass the time - go to your local guitar shop!
If you do not live close enough to collect your purchase I can assure you
it will be packed very securely indeed and shipped with full
insurance.
